Mr. Carson Cares' Strengths Kit is a fun and engaging tool rooted in positive psychology research. It helps children discover and celebrate their unique strengths through activities led by friendly dog guide, Mr. Carson and his animal friends. Designed to teach the VIA (Values in Action) Character Strengths, this kit encourages gentle exploration, fostering self-awareness, and emotional well-being. Through creative exercises, your child will learn to name their own strengths, while being able to notice and name strengths in others.
Quick start guide for parents/teachers/caregivers on how to introduce the kit and ways to use it with your child.
24 custom designed cards featuring adorable animals with the name of each strength and a strength affirmation. Two card sizes provided (2"x3.5" and 3.5x5").
Strengths Journal sheet with prompts: Kids write/draw how they explore each strength, and how it makes them feel. A tracker helps kids check off each strength explored.
Noticing and naming strengths in others is an important skill. Have your child use this detective sheet to recognize when they see strengths in action (even the family pet)!
Colour in Mr. Carson's cape or have your child make their special design. Write or draw pictures around Mr. Carson of their favourite strengths - their superpowers.
Strengths need to be celebrated and Mr. Carson has a certificate of completion for you to print for your child. This is about progress - not perfection. You decide when it's celebration time!
Hi, I’m Sarah Found, the heart and mind behind Mr. Carson Cares. My journey began with experiences of significant loss and self-doubt during childhood, where I found compassion and strength in my beloved pets (animal companions) and my passion for storytelling and journaling.
As a storyteller, communications professional, and most importantly - a mom, these experiences inspired me to return to school at 40+ to pursue a Master’s degree in Positive Psychology (MAPP), blending research with creativity. Curiosity and Love of Learning are clearly my two top character strengths!
Inspired by the life and legacy of my British Golden Retriever, Mr. Carson - aka my Chief Inspiration Officer (CIO), I’m dedicated to helping kids discover their inner strengths, build what I call 'heart-led resilience', and cultivate hope in hard moments that tomorrow can be better. With Mr. Carson as their gentle guide (and other furry friends), I aim to make positive psychology accessible, engaging, and impactful for every child.
In a world struggling with record levels of hopelessness amongst youth, these critical tools taught through the re-imagining of a gentle, 100-pound dog who touched many lives —are designed to nurture emotional well-being and resilience in children. Even a small spark of change in how a child sees themself can help protect and build their hope as they continue to grow up. Join Mr. Carson and I on this mission - paw in hand!
I am not a parenting coach or psychotherapist. I hold my Master of Science (MSc) degree in Positive Psychology(MAPP), where my research focused on hope and resilience in youth - especially those experiencing significant life changes and uncertainties.
I teach the 24 research-based VIA strengths, which are used with youth and adults. However, this journey is about your child and a strengths language they connect with. Explore the strength names, but feel inspired to make up new ones.
Research shows that children who focus on character strengths are up to 30% more likely to experience higher levels of happiness and lower levels of stress, helping them navigate challenges over time. Children develop a positive identity, cultivate hope and a growth mindset.
